Post-Sabbatical Report to Trinity Church

We had a busy day on Sunday, but good fun. Morning service (10.30 a.m.), Church Meeting (4.00 p.m.), Shared Tea (5.00 p.m.), All Age Worship (6.00 p.m.). In the Church Meeting I made a presentation to the church about my recent sabbatical. An edited version of My Post-Sabbatical Report can now be found on the church website: www.trinity-rawdon.org.uk (or see the link on the right hand side of my blog). Look for the section titled "Marcus' Message"!

I have just browsed through the Church site; its very interesting to read about your sabbatical these last few months.

"The reality is, however, that those who are spiritual seekers in the present cultural climate do not find our churches attractive or relevant to their spiritual needs, and are looking for answers to their spiritual questions in other places. And it is not just the non-believers in the UK who are left unmoved by the sterile rituals of our churches, the same is true of many who are leaving our churches in droves (and the same may be true for some of those who still come). There is a need for us to move away from traditional, inherited patterns of worship, experiment with our liturgies, and invent forms of words, rituals and movement that enable postmodern people to connect with stillness, space, and (ultimately) God. "

I'm really interested in your thoughts how to contextualize the message for our present culture without loosing its meaning and value. Its a really interesting problem, and a great one to work on!

It is fantastic to see you have started a blog too, Marcus - I have subscribed to your RSS feed. I'm not sure if you have seen them before, but St Georges Leeds (http://www.stgeorgesleeds.org.uk) publish podcasts of their sermons - pretty cool.
